Nico Rosberg says that his four-year spell at Williams "was not ideal" but insists he has "no regrets" over his career path so far.

Rosberg has impressed in his six seasons in Formula One - having secured five podium finishes - but he is yet to record a victory in 108 race starts. His first four years were spent in Williams machinery that was not capable of challenging for wins, and Mercedes has so far failed to live up to expectations. Despite the long wait for his first victory, Rosberg said that Mercedes is the right team for him to be with after extending his contract last season.

"I have no regrets," Rosberg told Auto Motor und Sport. "I am completely convinced it was right to go to Mercedes and to stay here."

When it was put to Rosberg that he could have moved to McLaren in 2008 he admitted it had been a possibility and that he was at Williams for too long, but said his performances for the team did not harm his reputation.

"There was the interest, but Frank (Williams) would not let me go. Certainly being four years at Williams was not ideal - it could have been a bit shorter. But particularly the last season there was a springboard for me. Since then I have been always seventh in the standings and made some others aware of me."
