Nico Rosberg believes that the 2012 season is providing Mercedes with "a big chance" to win the world championship.

At the start of the season Mercedes insisted that it hoped to be challenging for race wins in this year but that a championship attempt would be out of reach. However, with seven different winners from seven races in 2012, the title battle is wide open and Rosberg finds himself just 21 points off the championship lead.

While admitting to the official Formula One website that the unpredictability had opened up opportunities for the team, when asked where the championship was headed Rosberg replied: "I have no idea.

"I just know that it is fantastic for the fans - and a big chance for us. We have to understand the tyres better, although we do understand quite a lot by now. It is an interesting topic - one that I would say is key to this year's championship. But if you take those seven different winners then all the others are also trying to get acquainted with the tyres not just us. It is a very difficult language to learn!"

Rosberg also said that he was not concerned about the fact that he has yet to repeat his victory from China as he is expecting another chance to win to come along later in the season.

"Everybody is really close out there. Take Monaco. We had the best car there whereas here it wasn't the case. So it is bit up and down from track to track. I think in the end it is just important to be as consistent as possible and then there will come a track where you again have the fastest car. And then there you will win again. Hopefully!"
