England's men matched their female counterparts after winning bronze at the European Hockey Championships in Germany.

Unable to defend their European title after defeat to hosts Germany in the semi-finals on Friday night, England were forced to settle with bronze after claiming a 2-1 victory over Belgium.

Alexandre de Paeuw's goal cancelled out Richard Mantell's early penalty corner strike as England keeper James Fair's goal came under periods of sustained pressure. With the sides level at the end of normal time, James Tindall's reverse stick winner sealed a golden goal victory to secure the bronze medal.

"We didn't look at this tournament saying 'we have to win' - we're disappointed not to get the gold as we know we're good enough, but [at the Olympics] we're really going to push those top teams," goalscorer Tindall said. "Next year we'll win that semi, and then hopefully win that final."
