Ricky Hatton has confirmed that he will return to the ring in 2010 to compete in the light-welterweight division. The 31-year-old's last fight took place in May 2009, when he was defeated by Manny Pacquiao via second round knockout.

"I've decided to make a comeback and have another fight, probably around the summertime this year," he told Hatton TV. "I've had a good break, a good time off and a good time to reflect and put that last fight behind me and really get over it and get my mind straight.

"There's been no opponent that has been confirmed yet and there's been no date confirmed yet. But the point is that I have made my mind up that I'm going to have one more fight."

One potential opponent is WBA Light Welterweight champion Amir Khan, who told the Glasgow Herald on January 9 that he was keen to fight Hatton. "I would hate to get to the end of my career and look back at it and not have had the chance to fight Ricky Hatton," he said. "Maybe later in the year it could happen."

After Khan's 76-second demolition of Dmitry Salita in December 2009, his promoter Frank Warren ruled out a fight with Hatton. He said: "I don't feel Ricky Hatton should fight any more. It's crazy, you've only got to look at the size of him."

Speaking about his physical condition, Hatton said: "Weight-wise, I've got a little bit more to carry than I normally do. In order to do that, I'm going to go straight into training and shed the weight. When the date comes, I will do my usual 12-week training camp."
