Jessica Ennis could be on course to smash Denise Lewis' 10-year-old British heptathlon record this weekend.

Ennis makes her season multi-event debut at Gotzis in Austria next weekend, where Lewis' record of 6831 could be set to tumble. But Ennis, who clocked a wind-assisted 12.85s in the 110m hurdles at the Loughborough International on Sunday, insists the record is not her main priority ahead of the European Championships in Barcelona in July.

"I'm not thinking about a record there, I want it all to come together in the European Championships," she told The Daily Mail. "I feel really good. Everything has gone to plan in training and I just feel a lot stronger and a lot quicker than I was at this time last year."

Lewis is convinced that Ennis is on the verge of a new British record, saying it was a case of if, not when, she managed it, but admitted that the Austrian meeting was the perfect opportunity to do it.

"Jess will break the British record," Lewis told the Independent on Sunday last week. "End of. That's it. It's like the sun will come up tomorrow. Gotzis is a perfect opportunity for her to do it. Everything is run so well there; it gives you the best opportunity to get the best out of yourself."
