Ennis thrilled with sprint win

Jessica Ennis feels she is on target to peak at this summer's European Championships after wowing the packed crowds in Manchester with victory over Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu in a race over 150 metres.
Ennis is targeting victory in the Heptathlon in Barcelona in July to add to her world crown and she feels her victory in a time of 16.99 shows her speed training is paying off.
"I'm really pleased at the win," Ennis said after leading throughout the race through the streets of Manchester. "I've never done a 150m straight before and my coach said if I ran 17-zero he would be happy. That's what he was hoping for so I don't think he'll complain about that.
"To come here and have a great competition, have to work hard and have that time at the start of the season, is really promising."
Tyson Gay lowered the record of Tommie Smith to win the 200 metres straight in a time of 19.41. Smith's record had stood for 44 years and Gay looks like he has emerged stronger from a spell on the sidelines with injury.
