World welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has been released from hospital in Manila after being treated for a stomach ulcer.

After an intense few weeks of campaigning, the newly-elected congressman was admitted into a San Juan hospital on Sunday morning with stomach pain.

Pacquiao's chief of staff Jayke Joson revealed that the fighter had been convinced to stay in the hospital for a few days by his family.

"Really, Manny can only rest if you confine him to a hospital," Joson told The Associated Press. "It's been so intense a campaign, he missed some of his meals."

Pacquiao was elected into Philippine's House of Representatives earlier this month, and is expected to take a break before taking up the role on June 30.
