Jessica Ennis is hoping to bid for gold in three events at the 2012 Olympics if the scheduling arrangements allow her to do so.

The world heptathlon champion will target glory in the 100 metres hurdles and the sprint relay as well as in her specialist field.

Based on the timetable for the Beijing Olympics, which Ennis missed due to injury, she would be unable to compete in all three events.

But the 24-year-old, who narrowly missed out on the British heptathlon record in her triumphant visit to the Hypomeeting in Austria at the weekend, has made the London Organising Committee aware of her desire to launch a three-pronged attack on the medals.

"If the timetable did permit it and I keep on improving, I'd love to," Ennis told the Times. "I wanted to do it in Berlin [at last year's World Championships], but it was too close and there wasn't enough time to recover.

"I'd love to do the relay, too, but it's hard to predict how you will recover from a heptathlon. It's more sensible to say I'd like to do the hurdles and see how that goes. You might as well give it a go in a home Olympics and I hope they'll be able to pull a few strings."
