'Devastated' Ennis pulls out of UK Championships

A "devastated" Jessica Ennis has announced that she has been forced to pull out of this weekend's European Trials and UK Championships after contracting a virus.
The 24-year-old was due to take part in four events as part of her final preparations for the European Championships in Barcelona next month, where she will concentrate solely on the heptathlon.
"I'm devastated to be missing this weekend in Birmingham," Ennis said. "I love competing there and I am in such awesome shape.
"I had a really great session on Thursday morning where everything was on track, then started to feel ill soon after. I've been advised to rest for three or four days.
"I'm really gutted - I just want to wish everyone the best for this weekend and for them to know I'll be watching and cheering them on from home."
Ennis is targeting a comeback at the British Grand Prix in Gateshead on 10 July - where she will compete in the the 200m and javelin - before flying to Portugal with the GB team prior to the Europeans.
"I'm not expecting to win anything there. The javelin will be really weird - competing against athletes who are that good in an event which is slightly weaker for me may be slightly embarrassing, but it's perfect preparation for the Europeans," she said.
"I'm looking forward to the 200m because that will be really quick, and it's a chance to get my time down a bit."
