Phillips Idowu has left himself at the mercy of the selectors after pulling out of the Aviva Trials in Birmingham with a minor injury.

Idowu, one of Britain's leading hopes for a medal at London 2012 this summer, will now have to rely on a discretionary place to secure his place in the Team GB squad.

Idowu suffered an injury during his last competition at a Diamond League event in Oregon earlier this month, but UK Athletics head coach Charles van Commenee insisted it was not a cause for concern.

He said: "It's not a worry. He is selectable."

Idowu has already seen two of his main rivals for gold in London - Teddy Tamgho and Nelson Evora - ruled out of this summer's Games with injury.
