Fears grow after Idowu skips training camp

Phillips Idowu's chances of winning Olympic gold at London 2012 remain in the balance after it was confirmed that the triple jumper had failed to travel with the Team GB squad to a warm-weather training camp in Portugal.
Idowu has not competed since early June when he injured his foot during a competition in the USA, missing the Olympic trials in Birmingham before he was forced to pull out of the Aviva Grand Prix at Crystal Palace with a hip problem.
Idowu confirmed at the weekend that he was in a race against the clock to be fit, but concerns grew on Monday when UK Athletics revealed that Idowu had remained in London for treatment rather than joining his team-mates in Monte Gordo.
Idowu's coach Aston Moore confirmed that the Beijing silver medalist had not travelled to the Team GB holding camp.
"In training recently Phillips has had an ongoing injury problem and we have not been able to go at things 100%," Moore said.
"At the weekend, Phillips told me he would continue to seek treatment from a private physio in London and would not travel to prepare in Portugal, although he may join us here later.
"He is an experienced athlete who I have worked with for more than four years and we will assess the situation again in the coming days."
