Jessica Ennis may be the face of the London 2012 Olympics but the British star admits her primary focus is preparing for a punishing year ahead.

The world and European heptathlon champion, 24, has enjoyed a sparkling 2010, winning gold at the World Indoor Championships in Doha before setting a new European Championship record and personal best on her way to victory in Barcelona.

As the countdown to London 2012 gathers pace, Ennis realises the importance of a successful 2011. With so much expected of the heptathlete, Ennis is preparing for a gruelling season - she will attempt to win the European Indoors in March before defending her world crown in South Korea.

"I've got a big year next year, I've got European indoors and the World Championships and I've got to retain my title out there," she told Sky Sports. "It's going to be a really big year and I've got to make sure I can get that right before the Olympic year.

"It's a brilliant time to be a British athlete. A home Olympics is something not very many athletes will experience. I feel very privileged I'll be a part of this time and I just hope I can perform and get ready to take it on. I'll train hard and keep my fingers crossed that I can do that."
