Samoa came back from a half-time deficit to beat Tonga on Saturday.

Full-back Gavin Williams scored half of his side's 20 points with two penalties and two conversions at the Teufaiva Stadium.

It was Samoa's first win of the 2008 Pacific Nations and they move off the bottom of the table with the last round of matches remaining. Tonga meanwhile remain winless.

Electric winger David Lemi and back rower Uale Mai scored Samoa's tries. In contrast, all of Tonga's points came from the boot. Fly-half Pierre Hola slotted three penalties while winger Vunga Lilo kicked two.

Samoa face Japan in Apia next weekend while Tonga take on Fiji.

Samoa 20 (Uale Mai, David Lemi tries; Gavin Williams 2 conversions, 2 penalties)

Tonga 15 (Pierre Hola 3 penalties; Vungakoto Lilo 2 penalties)

HT: 7-9
