England prop Phil Vickery has verbally agreed an extension to his contract at Guinness Premiership side Wasps.

Vickery was one of a number of Wasps' England contingent to be out of contract at the end of the season, but he has stated that he will be staying with the club that he has faith in as being good for both his club and international interests.

Vickery captained England to the 2007 World Cup final and has won over 60 caps. He joined Wasps in 2006 after spending many successful years with Gloucester and has won the Guinness Premiership and Heineken Cup with the London club.

"I have been made a very fair offer which I am perfectly satisfied with," Vickery told The Daily Mail. "Nothing has been signed but we have reached a verbal agreement and I'd be more than happy to stay."

Speculation has mounted in recent months over the future of Vickery's England colleagues Danny Cipriani and James Haskell, also out of contract and under pressure to re-sign from new Wasps owner Steve Hayes.

"I don't know about other players' business and I don't want to but I sincerely hope the others who are out of contract sign as well because this is a good club to be part of," said Vickery. "I have nothing but good things to say about Wasps, they look after you and do everything they can to get the best out of everyone.

"I count myself lucky to be at Wasps for one reason in particular - they are pro-England. They want to help England which is why they go to a lot of trouble to keep producing England players."
