Gloucester and England winger Lesley Vainikolo has appeared in court to answer a charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

Tongan-born Vainikolo was arrested following a street brawl outside the Second Bridge nightclub in Bath on October 26 2008. A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with facial injuries following the incident and later discharged.

Vainikolo, clad in a blue jumper and jeans, spoke only to confirm his name before the case was sent to Bristol Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on January 13.

Gloucester travel to Saracens in the next round of Premiership action, with Vainikolo finding form after a try-scoring performance in the recent win over Bristol at the Memorial Stadium.
