Leicester have confirmed that they will look into the matchday seating arrangements for coaches and officials at Welford Road.

Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill and head coach Matt O'Connor escaped censure on Monday following allegations that they abused match officials during their Aviva Premiership play-off victory over Northampton 10 days ago, while then Saracens boss Brendan Venter was banned from last season's final following an incident in an away tie.

Leicester have welcomed the decision by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to clear their coaches and pledged to look into the seating arrangements at the ground.

"We will be working closely with Premiership Rugby Limited on the issue of the location of team coaches and officials on matchday," read a statement.

Venter, now Saracens' technical director, will be involved in this weekend's final, unlike 12 months ago. Sarries chief executive Ed Griffiths has revealed that the club requested Leicester write a letter to the RFU supporting the idea that Venter should be allowed to attend the final - which Leicester won late on thanks to a Dan Hipkiss try.

"When Brendan was being threatened with not attending the final, we asked Leicester if they would write a letter suggesting he should attend because the final wouldn't be right unless both coaches were present," he said.

"They were unable to write that letter. I don't know whether it would have made any difference but I just feel these finals should take place with both coaches present. It is a showpiece occasion. As [former West Ham manager] John Lyall said of the 1980 FA Cup final 'it's a champagne day'.

"If the roles had been reversed we would certainly have written a letter because we are very happy Richard Cockerill will be at Twickenham."
