Leicester prop Martin Castrogiovanni will be out for up to six weeks with a fractured rib, Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill has confirmed.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury during Italy's 19-15 defeat to England at the Stadio Olympico on Saturday. He is set to miss the rest of Italy's Six Nations campaign but could return to domestic duty before the end of next month.

"The initial diagnosis is four to six weeks, and that's bad luck for Castro," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury. "He was really up for the England game and carried the ball a lot. But then he fell on the ball, got a bang in the ribs and he has cracked one."

Cockerill will also discover on Wednesday whether Toby Flood and Manu Tuilagi will return to Welford Road when Stuart Lancaster trims down his England squad. The Tigers pair were recalled to Lancaster's training squad after successfully coming through Leicester's defeat at Exeter Chiefs at the weekend.

Cockerill added: "Manu got 80 minutes and looked his youthful self, with plenty of energy and aggression."
