Driving like last year won't work - Vettel
Sebastian Vettel believes the new regulations for 2014 means drivers will need to adapt the way they have driven in previous years or risk not making the chequered flag.
Vettel won 13 races last season, including nine consecutively, as he wrapped up his fourth title in a row. But the new rules have made the upcoming season an uncertain proposition, with teams arriving in Jerez with limited knowledge of how the new turbo engines and regulations will alter proceedings.
Though he does not know exactly what to expect from the car in 2014, Vettel is convinced every driver will need to adapt fast or risk a season of frustration.
"At the moment its all guessing," Vettel said. "We haven't done a whole lot of running, we haven't tested the car in different situations - quali trim, race trim, which will probably be very different this year. There will be a lot of changes, but how much change at this stage we don't know.
"We can say there is probably going to be a change, I guess it's pretty big, but how big we will have to wait and see. Also whether it favours myself or other drivers in particular just because of the way they drive the car, or what they are good at, is very difficult to know at this stage.
"For sure there will be new elements of driving skills, different skills generally that you will have to get on top of and adapt to. It's a new car so it will feel differently. If you drive it the same way you did last year in a race you won't see the chequered flag, that's a very simple one to understand. But which way is the best, every driver needs to find his own way."
