Sebastian Vettel says he is not placing much weight behind how his new team has performed in 2014.

Vettel is departing Red Bull at the end of the season and, though nothing has been confirmed, it is widely expected a move to Ferrari will be announced once Fernando Alonso's switch to McLaren is completed. This season looks set to be Ferrari's first winless campaign since 1993, with just two Fernando Alonso podiums to its name this year, but Vettel is not reading too much into the fortunes of other teams.

"Not really," Vettel replied when asked if he had spent a long time looking at how his new team was performing. "My way is always to try and do the best I can on the day and go step by step. It's always difficult to judge performance from the outside. That's why it's easiest to know exactly what is going on in your team, what the others are doing is very difficult.

"Take Williams, for example, it's hard for people to know what they are doing on Friday - whether they are just slow and got lucky many times, which I don't think is the case, or are doing something else and not showing their true pace. I don't think it makes much sense to waste time doing that too much."

Though he is on his way out from Red Bull Vettel has still had some technical input into its 2015 car, but he does not think it is a surprise he is being kept in the dark in most areas.

"I think I've been long enough with them to know what's going on so I don't get pushed outside. After five years you know someone and there is mutual trust. All the stuff happening on the car for next year doesn't get discussed with me, which is normal. Equally there is stuff that we test here on the track which will be used next year and from a team point of view it is best for both of the cars to do that. If it's any kind of secrets I won't know about it since I told them I will leave. Like I said, I don't get pushed out so I don't feel like the third wheel on the wagon or anything."
