Carlos Sainz Jr is hoping his day of testing for Red Bull in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday will be enough to convince its bosses to give him a drive for their junior team Toro Rosso next season.

As a Red Bull junior driver, Sainz is in the running for the Toro Rosso seat alongside Max Verstappen, who has already been confirmed for next year. His test on Tuesday was his prize for winning the Formula Renault 3.5 championship this year, but he is hoping it goes towards securing him a place on the grid in 2015.

"I'm not hearing much, I'm just waiting for them to make a decision," he said. "I'm sure they will make the correct one and obviously I would like that to be me. I don't know what can happen and I have to wait and see. This test was an important one for me to let them know the step forward I made from last year [when Sainz tested the 2013 Red Bull], for them to get to know me a bit better and hopefully they can choose me."

Sainz said it had been a positive day without any mistakes.

"No problems at all. It was quite an extensive programme. The morning was just going around doing some aero checks and towards the afternoon I could push a bit more. I think it was the ideal plan for me to get used to the car and I'm really grateful for Red Bull to give me the chance.

"For sure I'm happy and I think I've done a good job with no mistakes and that was the main target. Daniel [Ricciardo] has to run tomorrow and he's the important one and the one who should tackle the action and the testing properly."
