World champion Sebastian Vettel has warned his Red Bull team that they will need a vastly improved performance at his home grand prix at the Nurburgring.
Vettel has been in imperious form in 2011, winning six of the first eight races, but was comfortably beaten into second place at last weekend's British Grand Prix by Fernando Alonso's Ferrari.
"It was a tough race and Ferrari was very quick, Fernando Alonso in particular, and they beat us," said Vettel who nonetheless still leads the championship by 80 points from Red Bull teammate Mark Webber.
"We need understand when you get beaten you have to accept it. It was a lesson to learn and it is up to us now to refocus and make sure that we come back with stronger performance for the next couple of races," he added.
Vettel is still in a hugely advantageous position, but with Ferrari and McLaren showing form in the past three races, he is aware that Red Bull cannot rest on their laurels as if the championship was already won.
"It is a very important time now for the championship,". Vettel insisted. "We are in a good position still, but we need to keep working on ourselves because otherwise the others will get too close for our liking."
