Red Bull has 'clever development'

Red Bull has devised "a clever development" to compensate for the loss of the blown diffuser, according to Renault's Jean Francois Caubet.

Having pioneered the use of exhaust gases to generate downforce, in 2011 the Red Bull was the class of the field. New regulations that ban exotic engine maps and restrict the exit points of the exhausts were therefore expected to hit Red Bull harder than many of the other teams, but Caubet - head of the team's engine supplier Renault - said that it has found away round the new rules.

"Formula One is about creativity," Caubet is quoted by Auto Bild. "And although the rules have changed, we have worked with Red Bull and found a solution to compensate for the loss of performance. It is not the same as before ... but a clever development that could make the difference."

Adrian Newey himself admitted that the team was still exploring options within the current exhaust regulations.

"The exhaust is one of the areas in which we still have some ideas up our sleeves," Newey said.
