Eric Boullier has been appointed as Renault's team principal for next season.

It is the first major announcement by the team since Genii Capital bought a majority share in December. Boullier has strong links to Genii's owner Gerard Lopez, having headed up the investor's driver management company, Gravity.

The announcement comes after weeks of negotiations, but will see Boullier take immediate control. He has previous experience in team management having worked with France's A1 GP team and GP2 team DAMS.

"I am incredibly proud to be joining the Renault F1 Team as team principal," said Boullier. "Renault is one of the most famous and successful names in motorsport and I look forward to leading the team into the new season. In the past Renault has demonstrated that it is one of the top teams in Formula One and I am sure that with hard work and determination we can challenge at the front once again."

His appointment will see temporary boss Bob Bell stay at the team and continue to oversee the design and production of the car.
