Gareth Hock's England future is in doubt after the second rower was sent home and will not take part in the Rugby League World Cup.

Hock, 30, was ordered to leave England's training base at Loughborough University after "serious breaches of team discipline".

A statement read: "As a result of serious breaches of team discipline that have fallen below the strict code of conduct as agreed by team management, Gareth Hock has been withdrawn from the England Rugby League World Cup squad with immediate effect."

His place in Steve McNamara's squad has been handed to Huddersfield's Brett Ferres.

Hock's departure follows an embarrassing defeat to Italy in a warm-up match.
