Henson targets England Six Nations opener

Gavin Henson has set his sights on Wales' Six Nations opener against England, insisting it has always been his plan to play in the February 4 showdown.

Henson is currently inactive despite his recent decision to join Saracens, with his career on hold until his involvement in Strictly Come Dancing comes to an end. The final of that show is scheduled for December 18-19, which leaves the Wales centre facing the prospect of not playing a competitive rugby match until 2011.

Even if he was to be voted off the popular entertainment programme in the near future, Saracens are heading into a heavy European schedule, from which Henson is currently ineligible to play.

However, having seen Wales lose to New Zealand in their final autumn international, the former British & Irish Lion believes he can improve Warren Gatland's side, and he is confident that can begin when England visit the Millennium Stadium in February.

"The boys haven't done too well so I've probably got a good chance of getting back in there," Henson was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"Hopefully that's the plan. Obviously I'm with Saracens now so I'm doing my rugby training as well. I'm feeling good. I'm not too far off the pace so before the end of the year I should be playing and hopefully getting a couple of games in before the Six Nations.

"I believe it's going to go well. I want to be in that Six Nations. It's always been in my plan and then to go on to the World Cup."
