Hamilton dedicates win to Bianchi
Lewis Hamilton has dedicated his victory at the Russian Grand Prix to Jules Bianchi, who remains in a critical condition in hospital after his accident at Suzuka last week.
Bianchi suffered severe brain trauma after crashing into a recovery vehicle one week ago at the Japanese Grand Prix. The drivers showed their support for their colleague ahead of the start of the race by gathering in a circle on the grid as well as running stickers supporting Bianchi on their helmets.
After the race Hamilton said he wanted to dedicate his victory to Bianchi.
"All week there's been just one person on my mind, and that's Jules," said Hamilton. "There has been excitement and happiness for the team, but without a doubt every time I've got in the car this week, coming here, being here, I've been thinking about him and his family and keeping him in my prayers every day.
"Whether it means anything, or whether it does anything, it would be great to dedicate this to Jules and his family. It will make a very small difference to them, for sure, but every bit of positive energy hopefully will help. I need all you guys, and all us teams to send him our positive vibes that way because positive energy is actually real."
