Esteban Gutierrez believes he needs to show Sauber he is learning from the mistakes he makes during his debut season.

Gutierrez is yet to score his first point for Sauber but has had limited opportunities to do so in a less competitive car, with team-mate Nico Hulkenberg only scoring five points himself. In an exclusive interview with ESPN, Gutierrez said the main thing he had learned from his seven races so far had been the need to make steady progress and learn from any mistakes he makes.

"One of the things is that you don't achieve success from one day to another," Gutierrez said. "It's quite evident; you have to work a lot, you have to gain experience and it's very important to learn from the mistakes. It's about taking it step-by-step and it's very important to take them in the most solid way because that's how you can make progress.

"Generally the experience has been very interesting. It's obviously not as easy as it looks because otherwise everything would be easy and not so interesting. So it's a challenge that I'm enjoying and I'm really looking forward to keep improving myself, communication with the team, as a person to feel more confident and these things I've been improving a lot in the last few races. So now we're trying to improve as a team as well, hopefully for Silverstone it will be a better situation for us."
