Sirotkin to make Sauber debut at Sochi

Sauber has announced that Sergey Sirotkin will drive a Formula One car for the first time in Sochi next month.

Sirotkin made his first visit to the Sauber factory last week to become familiar with the team and to have a seat fitting. While he has yet to acquire a Superlicence to take part in a session during a grand prix weekend, Sirotkin will drive Sauber's demonstration car on 27 September at the Sochi circuit which is under construction.

"We are proud to be doing the demo run next month," team principal Monisha Kaltenborn said. "It will be a historical moment when a Russian driver drives a Formula One car for the first time at the track in Sochi."

Reflecting on his time at the Sauber headquarters, Sirotkin said he had learned a lot during a busy schedule.

"My visit to the Sauber F1 Team headquarters was busy," he said. "I learned a lot about the team and many other things. I had a seat fitting, met the engineers and learned about the car and what happens over a race weekend. I also had a lesson with the steering wheel. I am happy because, if you had told me six months ago that one day I would visit this workshop and meet this team, I would have never believed you. It's great. The dream is so close to becoming reality now."
