Sauber extends Ferrari partnership

Sauber has announced it is extending its technical partnership with Ferrari and will purchase the complete powertrain for 2014.

Sauber has been using Ferrari engines since 2010 and has now announced that the extension is "a multi-year agreement" which will see Ferrari supplying the full 2014 powertrain "including engine, gearbox and ERS". Team principal Monisha Kaltenborn said Ferrari's reliability would be an important factor during next season's technical regulation changes.

"We are pleased to extend our technical partnership with Ferrari taking Sauber into the new era of engines that starts in 2014," Kaltenborn said. "Ferrari has been a long standing partner of the team, first from 1997 to 2005 and then again from 2010 onwards. We are proud to extend our relationship with such a prestigious and renowned brand and look forward to entering the 2014 season with a strong and reliable partner like Ferrari."

Ferrari will also supply Marussia with engines in 2014, having lost a previous customer in Toro Rosso to Renault.
