Glasgow scrum-half Chris Cusiter will continue his push for a place in Scotland's Rugby World Cup squad with a short spell in Australian club rugby.

The 28-year-old played his third game since recovering from a serious knee injury in the Warriors' final Magners League outing against Leinster last Friday and will now turn out for Southern Districts in Sydney's Shute Shield.

Cusiter flew to Australia on Saturday night and will be available for a maximum of four games.

"I'm really excited about this. I really need to get more game time and ideally to be as sharp as I can to be in with a chance of World Cup selection," he said.

"I've had three games back with Glasgow and need to work on my match fitness. The Sydney club rugby competition is very strong and hopefully I'll be able to play four games and learn a bit from the experience."

Cusiter's move met with approval from Scotland boss Andy Robinson, who added: "I applaud Chris's initiative here. He is striving to be in the best physical and mental shape he can be and attuned to the intensity a scrum-half faces, with the challenges that lie ahead later this year at the Rugby World Cup."
