  • Dan Carter would be "happy to play" for the All Blacks in their must-win Tri-Nations clash with Australia on August 22.

The 27-year-old fly-half is still on the comeback trail after spending six months on the sidelines with an Achilles injury. However, Carter played all 80 minutes of Canterbury's Air New Zealand Cup clash with Auckland on Saturday, scoring all of his side's points in a 22-16 win at Eden Park.

With the All Blacks in serious danger of losing their Tri-Nations crown after successive defeats on South African soil, Carter would now appear a certainty to be recalled for the upcoming clash with the Wallabies in Sydney.

However, the man himself is remaining is coy on talk of a swift return to international duty.

"I have to wait and talk with them to see if they are interested. The All Blacks is the ultimate and if I get the call it is a decision I will have to make. I've obviously got another tough game next week [against Waikato]," he told Sportal.

"That's what I'm working towards, getting back in the black jersey and each week I play I feel more comfortable so I can't really turn it down, if they want me to play I will be happy to play."

Carter also dismissed the suggestion that the All Blacks are currently a side in crisis.

"I don't think the South Africans are getting as much credit as they deserve. They're a good side but we have performed well in the past when our backs have been up against the wall so I'm confident the All Blacks can bounce back from this," he said.

  • Schalk Burger is one of four players added to the South Africa squad for the away leg of their Tri-Nations campaign.

Burger still has two weeks remaining on his eight-week suspension for making contact with the eye area of Luke Fitzgerald during the Springboks' second Test win over the British & Irish Lions in Pretoria.

However, the Stormers flanker has been named in Peter de Villiers' 29-strong travelling party as he will be eligible for South Africa's clash with Australia in Perth on August 29.

Sharks duo Ryan Kankowski and Odwa Ndungane, and Bulls prop Gurthro Steenkamp have also earned recalls.

  • Australia's Debby Hodgkinson has been named the IRB Women's Personality of the Year 2009.

The inspirational No.8 was presented with her award in Apia by Samoa legend Brian Lima after helping her team to qualify for Women's Rugby World Cup 2010 with an 87-0 victory over Samoa.

The 28-year-old helped Australia to victory in the inaugural Women's Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai, starting all six matches and scoring seven tries, including a scintillating score in a dramatic final victory over New Zealand.

  • Saracens got their 2009-10 season off and running in South Africa on Friday night with two matches against University of Cape Town.

The first match of the evening saw the tourists run out 39-3 winners while the second game ended 26-3 as Saracens Director of Rugby Brendan Venter utilised all of his squad who made the trip over the two matches.

  • Clermont Auvergne beat Glasgow 12-0 in their pre-season clash on Friday night.

The French Top 14 side Clermont boasted Jason White, the former Glasgow forward and Scotland captain who has joined form Sale, in their ranks and just edged the encounter, leading 5-0 at half-time, before sealing the win in the second period with a converted try to win 12-0.
