Dan Carter would be "happy to play" for the All Blacks in their must-win Tri-Nations clash with Australia on August 22.
The 27-year-old fly-half is still on the comeback trail after spending six months on the sidelines with an Achilles injury. However, Carter played all 80 minutes of Canterbury's Air New Zealand Cup clash with Auckland on Saturday, scoring all of his side's points in a 22-16 win at Eden Park.
With the All Blacks in serious danger of losing their Tri-Nations crown after successive defeats on South African soil, Carter would now appear a certainty to be recalled for the upcoming clash with the Wallabies in Sydney.
However, the man himself is remaining is coy on talk of a swift return to international duty.
"I have to wait and talk with them to see if they are interested. The All Blacks is the ultimate and if I get the call it is a decision I will have to make. I've obviously got another tough game next week [against Waikato]," he told Sportal.
"That's what I'm working towards, getting back in the black jersey and each week I play I feel more comfortable so I can't really turn it down, if they want me to play I will be happy to play."
Carter also dismissed the suggestion that the All Blacks are currently a side in crisis.
"I don't think the South Africans are getting as much credit as they deserve. They're a good side but we have performed well in the past when our backs have been up against the wall so I'm confident the All Blacks can bounce back from this," he said.
