Leicester Tigers have announced the signing of back-rower Wessel Jooste from Bourgoin.

Jooste's move has been in the pipeline for a while with rumours of the switch first coming to light back in August but visa issues held up the deal. Jooste arrives at the Tigers from the financially troubled French side Bourgoin where he made 179 appearances.

Jooste has already pulled on a Tigers jersey when he took to the field in their Monday night 'A' League match with Gloucester and will help fill the void left by the retired Craig Newby and Ben Woods.

Tigers boss Richard Cockerill has already bolstered his back-row resources with the signings of Richard Thorpe and Brett Deacon and he is looking forward to utilising Jooste's physicality.

"Wessel is a big man, a good ball carrier and can play right across the back row and in the second row," Cockerill said. "He has played a lot of his rugby in France and has captained Bourgoin. We believe he will be a good signing for us and will complement the other guys we've got in the squad."
