Wales coach Warren Gatland has been handed an unwanted injury headache prior to the Six Nations, with fly-half Rhys Priestland and flanker Dan Lydiate both waiting for news on knocks sustained in European action.

Lydiate was helped from the field early on in the Dragons' Amlin Challenge Cup clash with Cavalieri Prato on Saturday, while Priestland suffered a leg injury as the Scarlets defeated Castres in the Heineken Cup.

Asked whether he would be fit for Wales' opener against Ireland on February 5, Lydiate told BBC Sport: "I hope so."

Lydiate and Priestland are among 35 players set to travel to Poland on Sunday for a pre-tournament training camp and Gatland will not want any other first-team players racing to make the cut.

Cardiff Blues centre Jamie Roberts is another doubt and is currently battling a knee problem sustained against the Dragons at the end of December.

Scarlets boss Nigel Davies was tight-lipped on Priestland's injury, saying only: "We will have to wait and see. Hopefully it is not too serious."

James Hook is the other recognised fly-half in the Wales squad, while Ryan Jones, Andy Powell and Justin Tipuric are back-row options.
