Williams, Higgins and Trump make quarter-finals

Mark Williams booked a quarter-final encounter with Joe Perry in the Shanghai Masters as he dispatched the challenge of Ricky Walden with an assured 5-2 win on Thursday.

Walden posted breaks of 95 and 112 early on as the match played out an even affair to sit at 2-2 going into the mid-session interval.

The former world champion took control after however and combined with some errors from Walden was able to take three frames in a row to end Walden's tournament.

Williams will now face Perry who was in dominant form to whitewash Neil Robertson 5-0 in their last 16 match.

Robertson was stunned by an effortlessly efficient Perry who raced into a 4-0 lead before the break, finishing off the tie with a fifth frame immediately after.

There was another clean sweep in Ali Carter's demolition of Stephen Maguire, as Carter posted a break of 120 on his way to a 5-0 win and a quarter-final slot against John Higgins, who was similarly destructive in his 5-0 win over Ryan Day.

Judd Trump came from 2-0 down to beat Mark Allen 5-3 as he set up a quarter-final tie with Graeme Dott, who made light work of Stephen Lee in their match as he marched through to the last eight with a 5-1 win.

Jamie Cope's competition came to an end as he suffered a 5-1 reversal at the hands of Stuart Bingham, the same margin of victory by which Cope had seen off top seed Mark Selby in round one. Breaks of 78 and 89 helped Bingham on his way to a last-eight slot, where he will take on Shaun Murphy.

Murphy held off a fightback from Mark King to win out 5-3 in the later session's longest game. Murphy had taken a 3-0 lead but a break of 112 from King brought him hope, before Murphy closed the match out.
