Judd Trump booked his place in the final of the China Open with a 6-1 win over Shaun Murphy.

Trump has long been tipped to reach the top of the game, but he has taken some time to fulfil his potential. But he took a further step forward this week, as victory over Murphy secured him a place in his first ranking final.

Any nerves Trump may have had disappeared early on, as he snatched the opening frame after Murphy was guilty of some sloppy safety. Trump got first run in the second and although he missed a simple red, Murphy was not able to capitalise.

The 21-year-old went in to the interval with a 3-1 lead and duly extended his lead to 4-1. The break-building was not of the highest quality, but there was no shortage of classy play on show as both players produced some fine safety.

The players were not helped by events off the table, as mobile phones went off repeatedly and Trump was distracted by a light from an open window shining on the table. He recovered from the setback to take the sixth frame and he again won a tense safety battle in the seventh to book his place in the final where he will face Mark Selby.

The home crowd's hopes of a local winner in Beijing were dashed as Ding Junhui fell 6-3 to Mark Selby. The pair traded centuries early on, 131 to Selby and 116 to Ding, before the Leicester man took control of the contest.
