Sharks wing JP Pietersen has become the latest player to withdraw from South Africa's November tour squad due to injury.

The 24-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in the Sharks' Currie Cup semi-final win over the Blue Bulls last weekend and joins a growing number of senior Springboks on the sidelines.

Peter De Villiers' side will begin their Grand Slam tour attempt against Ireland on November 6 shorn of skipper John Smit, prop Gurthro Steenkamp, scrum-half Fourie du Preez, flanker Heinrich Brussow, lock Andries Bekker and centres Jaque Fourie and Wynand Olivier.

Sharks coach John Plumtree also admitted that Bok hooker Bismarck du Plessis had undergone scans on a hand injury. "Bismarck du Plessis had a scan on his hand, we're hoping that he gets the all-clear," he said.
