Alex Grove was born in Solihull, England, and began his professional rugby career with Worcester, progressing through their academy and into the senior side.
After making his debut in 2006, he made rapid progress and swiftly established himself as a first team regular for the English side. But he qualified to play for Scotland due to his Grandfather and was claimed by the Scottish system, playing for the national side at under-18s, 19 and 20 levels. He went on to break into the senior side in November 2009, starting games against Fiji and Australia as well as appearing as a substitute against Argentina.
In May 2010 he was named in the Scotland squad to tour Argentina and a month later agreed a new two-year deal with Worcester. As part of the agreement he joined Edinburgh on a six-month loan to aid his attempts to break into the Scotland squad for the World Cup. After a successful stint north of the border, Grove returned to Sixways at the start of 2011.
But he was immediately called up for Scotland's squad for the Six Nations.
