South Africa have been rocked by the news that Bryan Habana has been ruled out of the remainder of their tour of Great Britain and Ireland.

The Western Province winger was on Tuesday afternoon named in the Springbok starting line-up for this weekend's Test against Scotland but it was confirmed later in the day that he had fractured a bone in his hand in training that morning and would play no further part in the tour.

Consequently, the uncapped Lwazi Mvovo will start on the left wing at Murrayfield, while Adi Jacobs has been added to the bench.

Habana started both of the Springboks' previous tour matches, victories over Ireland and Wales, as they look for a first Grand Slam since 1961.

The tourists have suffered a difficult beginning to their preparations this week after Bjorn Basson and Chiliboy Ralepelle were sent home for failing drugs tests, while Habana's break adds to an already lengthy injury list featuring winger JP Pietersen, skipper John Smit, flanker Schalk Burger, prop Gurthro Steenkamp, scrum-half Fourie du Preez, flanker Heinrich Brussow, lock Andries Bekker and centres Jaque Fourie and Wynand Olivier.
