Jean de Villiers has withdrawn from the three-day Springboks training camp in Durban, after knee discomfort forced his withdrawal from the Stormers side that defeated the Cheetahs at Newlands on Saturday.

The Springboks captain, 33, will undergo a scope in Cape Town on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury.

South Africa coach Heyneke Meyer has not replaced de Villiers in his 36-man home-based squad to meet on Sunday, instead calling up Sharks lock Stephan Lewies.

Meyer said that Lewies had starred for the Sharks on their tour of Australasian, where the Super Rugby ladder leaders won three of four matches.

South Africa host an exhibition game against a World XV before playing two Tests against Wales and one against Scotland during June.
