Jacques-Louis Potgieter has set his sights on a place in the Springboks squad at the 2011 Rugby World Cup after agreeing a switch to the Sharks for next season's Super 15.

The fly-half, 25, joined the Bulls from the Cheetahs prior to this season's tournament but limited game-time in Pretoria paved the way for a move to Kings Park.

The Sharks struggled at No.10 this season, recruiting England's Andy Goode on a short-term deal, and Potgieter will now likely compete with Steve Meyer for a starting berth, with Springbok Ruan Pienaar likely to be deployed at scrum-half.

"I think if you have ambitions to play in the World Cup next year you have to give yourself a good chance," he said. "The amount of time I'll get on the field at the Sharks, I hope, will give me a realistic chance of challenging for a World Cup spot.

"I've played a little bit of centre here at the Bulls but there are not a lot of fly-halves in South Africa who are really sticking their hands up. I want to do that."

Potgieter will join the Sharks at the end of the Currie Cup, having lost out to his new employers in the colours of the Blues Bulls last weekend.

"I'm very excited about the prospect of joining the Sharks - I'm looking forward to much more game time in the Super 15," he said. "The Sharks is a good team with lots of great players. They've been challenging for honours in both the Currie Cup and Super 14 over the last few seasons."
