Ospreys youngster Tom Prydie's hopes of challenging for a spot in Wales' Rugby World Cup squad appear to have been ended by a knee injury. The winger, the youngest player ever to be capped by Wales, aged 18 years and 25 days, will undergo knee reconstruction surgery later this week after being injured in his region's Magners League clash with Glasgow. "The scans show that Tom has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, confirming what we were expecting," Ospreys physiotherapist Chris Towers said. "Having sought specialist advice regarding the injury, he will now undergo a surgical reconstruction of the ligament later this week once the knee has fully recovered from the initial trauma. "He is looking at a lengthy lay-off, anticipated to be somewhere in the region of six to eight months." Wales' next assignment is a meeting with the Barbarians in Cardiff on June 4, with later World Cup warm-ups against England (twice) and Argentina in August. The deadline for Wales coach Warren Gatland to name his 30-man World Cup squad is August 22, with Prydie already an outside shot given the emergence of George North and Leigh Halfpenny's return to full fitness. © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
