- Monterrey Open
Pavlyuchenkova cruises through

Teenage sensation Anastasia Pavlyuchekova progressed to the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open in Mexico on Wednesday while Daniela Hantuchova also had an easy win, but seventh-seed Aleksandra Wozniack followed Jelena Jankovic out the door.
Third-seed Pavlyuchenkova met little resistance from Polona Hercog in their second round match, sewing up a 6-2 6-3 result in little over an hour. She goes on to face Klara Zakopalova - ten years her senior - in the last eight after the Czech veteran disposed of Patricia Mayr 6-4 6-3.
Alize Cornet conquered Wozniak 6-2 6-3 despite giving up 49 places in the WTA rankings to the Canadian. The top quarter of the draw seemed destined to produce a last eight match between Jankovic and Wozniak but now neither player will be there.
Jankovic was supposed to be blogging for the WTA website "all week" from the tournament, but after her shock first round exit she could only muster this brief post late on Tuesday:
"Hi everyone. Unfortunately I lost my match tonight. I could not play my best tennis, I made many mistakes on important points... it's really too bad because I was really enjoying it here. They treated me very well and I had the desire to continue. I'm sad because I could not win and the people were supporting me all time. I'll talk to you all again soon, thank you for reading :) JJ ♥"
Second-seed Hantuchova came through the tournament's last first round match unscathed, but she had to work hard to finish it off 6-3 7-6 against Lourdes Dominguez Lino. In the other second round match, American Vania King got past Frenchwoman Julie Coin 6-3 6-3.
