Serena Williams stormed into the final of the US Open as she handed out a lesson in power tennis to world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.
Wozniacki earned her rise to the top of the world rankings with her consistent excellence, but Williams is the best player in the women's game and she proved the point with a blistering 6-2 6-4 win.
It was a simple case of defence against attack and the aggressor won the day.
Wozniacki came into the match aware that Williams would carry the greater power and she felt it in the third game as the three-time champion saved a break point with a blistering backhand that flew across court and landed flush on the sideline.
The Dane's main hope was keeping the ball in play and looking for errors from her opponent. A string of unforced errors flew off the Williams racket,19 in the first set alone, but winners arrived at great regularity as well - 15 in all in the opening set compared to zero from Wozniacki.
Williams worked break points in the fourth game. She was made to work hard as Wozniacki refused to throw in the towel, but a blistering string of shots forced the error from the Dane.
A second break swiftly followed and although Wozniacki broke back, Williams - who swamped the net at every opportunity - wrapped up the opening set in 46 minutes
Wozniacki came under pressure again at the start of the second set but hit her first winner of the match, a superb lob, which enabled her to hold.
The pressure, though, was relentless and Wozniacki blinked at break point in the fourth game as a double fault handed a break to Williams.
Wozniacki continued to plug away from the back of the court, and in truth she did not play too badly, but she was given a harsh lesson by a player who has 13 grand slams to her name - while the Dane still searches for her first.
And while Williams is on the scene, that search is likely to continue for some time.
