Oliver Golding battled back from a set down to beat his doubles partner Jiri Vesely to win the US Open boys' title in New York.

Following in the footsteps of British No. 1 Andy Murray, who won the junior title in 2004, Golding beat top seed Vesely 5-7 6-3 6-4 to triumph at Flushing Meadows.

Vesely, who partnered Golding to doubles gold at the Youth Olympics last year, was the favourite going into the match, and he drew first blood, claiming a late break to snatch the opening set.

However, Golding clawed his way back into the match, winning the second set in just 33 minutes to force the match to a decider, and he broke the Czech midway through the set before holding his nerve to serve out for the match.

He joins a prestigious list, including Andy Roddick, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Richard Gasquet and David Nalbandian to win the event. Last year, the title was won by Jack Sock, who went on to win the mixed doubles with Melanie Oudin this year. In recent years, Bernard Tomic and Grigor Dimitrov have both triumphed, and have gone on to make breakthroughs on the men's circuit.
