Greg Rusedski has admitted that he would love to captain Great Britain's Davis Cup team one day.

The former US Open finalist would be delighted to take on the role once current captain Leon Smith's time in the job comes to an end, after helping the junior team to their first ever victory in the competition at the weekend.

Kyle Edmund, Luke Bambridge and Evan Hoyt beat Italy in the final in Mexico to claim the title under Rusedski's tutelage, and the former British No. 1 is now eyeing up a future move to lead the full men's team.

"I'd definitely like to do the job one day," Rusedski said. "In a few years from now it would be great."

Rusedski believes British tennis has a bright future ahead - with the Davis Cup success just the tip of the iceberg. Oli Golding's victory in the boys' tournament at this year's US Open - and Liam Broady's appearance in the final of the same competition at Wimbledon - has Rusedski believing that the country could be approaching a golden era.

"I'm very proud of our team. It feels great to be the first British team ever to win the Junior Davis Cup," he said. "We've always had one or two players with potential but now we have six to 10 who are all playing well and could make it into the top 100 in the world."
