Murray ponders link-up with Federer's former coach

Andy Murray's search for a coach could be over following the news that Roger Federer's former trainer Peter Lundgren is available.

When Murray split from coach Miles Maclagan last July, Lundgren's name was mentioned as a possible replacement, but at the time the Swede had just started working with Swiss No. 2 Stanislas Wawrinka.

However, Wawrinka has confirmed he has parted company with Lundgren after 15 months, leaving the former British Davis Cup coach free to pursue new employment.

"He played a major role in my career and I am deeply grateful," Wawrinka confirmed on his official facebook page. "We have had a lot of success and fun working together, I can't thank him enough."

Murray had previously claimed he would not rush into appointing a coach, and was prepared to be patient in his search for the right man: "I would go for a former great player or a coach who has worked with great players in the past, someone with a lot of experience at the top of the game," Murray said last year.

Having guided Federer to his first grand slam in 2003, Lundgren would appear to fit the bill. The Swede also helped Marat Safin win the 2005 Australian Open. Lundgren already has experience of working with Murray having been employed by the Lawn Tennis Association as Davis Cup coach in 2006.
