Tsonga on course for London with sixth career title

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga boosted his chances of qualifying for the end-of-year ATP World Tour Finals by winning his first title for two years at the Moselle Open.
Tsonga, currently No. 7 in the race for the season-ending climax in London, bagged himself 100 more points as he battled to a 6-3 6-7(4) 6-3 victory over Croatian fourth seed Ivan Ljubicic.
With four qualification places for the finals, which are to take place at the O2 Arena, up for grabs, competition is fierce and so racking up victories is vital. Tsonga fired down seven aces en route to the first set before Ljubicic, who was trailing 2-4 in the second set, rallied to take the next on a tiebreak.
Unperturbed, Tsonga raised his game and two breaks of serve in the decider handed him his first title since October 2009.
Meanwhile, at the BDR Nastaste Tiriac Trophy in Bucharest, Florian Mayer claimed his maiden ATP Tour title at the fifth attempt in Romania. The German beat fourth seed Pablo Andujar 6-3 6-1 in 72 minutes to break a four-match losing streak in finals.
