Stosur dumped out in Tokyo as Wozniacki survives scare

US Open champion Sam Stosur came crashing back down to earth at the Pan Pacific Open as she fell in her opening match to Maria Kirilenko.
In a rematch of the fourth round match in New York earlier this month, which featured the longest tie break in women's grand slam history, (Stosur eventually won the match 6-2 6-7(15) 6-3), Kirilenko had her revenge.
Stosur, playing in her first tournament since her victory at Flushing Meadows, fell 6-2 4-6 6-4 in the second round to the world No. 27. After losing the opening set, Stosur found herself a break down in the second, but rallied to force the match to a deciding set. But after the pair traded breaks, Kirilenko broke for a 5-4 lead before serving out to seal the victory.
Stosur racked up 35 winners, but ultimately 45 unforced errors proved her undoing as Kirilenko set up a third-round clash with former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic, who defeated British teenager Laura Robson.
World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki booked her place in the third round, but was pushed all the way by Stosur's Australian team-mate Jarmila Gajdosova. After streaking through the opening set, Wozniacki looked to be on course for a routine win, but Gajdosova fought back to level after a second-set tie-break.
Neither player gave anything away in the early stages of the decider, but Wozniacki grabbed her chance, comverting her first break point to claim a 6-1 7-6(4) 6-3 victory. The top seed will face Estonia's Kaia Kanepi for a place in the quarter-finals.
