Murray a step closer to overtaking Federer in rankings

Andy Murray's goal of leapfrogging Roger Federer in the world rankings before the end of the season remains a distinct possibility, after the Scot moved 250 points closer to the Swiss maestro.
Fresh from claiming his 19th career title with a 6-2 6-0 victory over American Donald Young at the Thailand Open, Murray took his ranking points total to 7,415, with third-placed Federer less than a 1000 ahead on 8,380.
Despite the 16-time grand slam champion being within Murray's sights, the Scot admits it will be difficult to usurp him in the standings, particularly with a string of European events following the current hard-court Asian swing.
"Roger always plays very well on the European indoor courts, so I'm sure I'm going to have to win a lot more matches if I want to finish as number three," said Murray. "That's the goal and I'll keep working hard to give myself a shot at doing that."
Although there was no movement in the top 10 this week, Janko Tipsarevic got a monkey off his back when winning in Kuala Lumpur to end the statistic of him being the highest-ranked ATP Tour player yet to win a title.
