Novak Djokovic is guaranteed to end 2011 as the world No. 1 after Rafael Nadal lost to Florian Mayer in the third round of the Shanghai Masters on Thursday.

Djokovic, who was crowned No. 1 after winning Wimbledon in July, has ended seven years of Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer completing the year on top.

Serbian star Djokovic, 24, began the season with a 41-match winning streak and, as well as Wimbledon, has claimed the Australian Open and US Open during 2011. He has won ten titles overall this year, losing just one final.

Between now and the end of the season, he is set play at the Basel Swiss Indoors, the BNP Paribas Masters and the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals.
